The Best Thing About Creating Art
Art is often about feelings and emotions–the things that we can’t quite explain or put into words but still feel deep within our hearts. It celebrates the differences in it’s creators and gives you a way to use your creativity to express yourself in an unconventional way.
Self-expression is a tool that can help you feel better about — and accept who you are or help you connect with others who share similar feelings.
You don’t have to be good at painting or drawing to express yourself through art; all that matters is that it makes you feel something.

Alternative Art
It’s dark, it’s moody, and it’s atmospheric
This is because artists want to express emotions that are difficult to convey any other way. Or they want to express emotions in a way that others can visually see, to understand or share in those emotions.
Gothic art celebrates the beauty of darkness; it revels in pain, suffering and death because these are universal experiences shared by everyone throughout history.

The artists who create this type of artwork and embrace these things sometimes see no reason why others are scared of, ashamed by or uncomfortable with these common and inevitable parts of life.
Misconceptions
Alternative artists are often misfits, outcasts, or rebels. They use their art as a means of expressing themselves in ways that were not always accepted by society at large or even the ones close to them. Unfortunately they are commonly seen as people to be avoided because people sometimes view them as scary, bad and in some cases, evil.
However, I really believe this isn’t the case. At least in most instances. I can personally say that in my experience, some of the people I know, who belong to this group —like myself— are actually some of the most upbeat, kind and compassionate people I know.
Uses for Creativity
Artists who create what can be described as dark, alternative, edgy or gothic art, tend to create art that is not typically considered part of the mainstream. This is because a lot of us think differently than most. Some of us have experiences that shaped us, our views, our feelings and even our lives negative ways —Mental or physical illnesses. Trauma. Abuse or neglect. Although for some, they haven’t experienced those things and still fall into the category of people who love everything alternative, edgy, and dark.
Art, crafts and creative hobbies are so important. These powerful tools are often used as a coping skill to deal with the negative things in our lives, like I previously mentioned above. To let go of the feelings we no longer want to hold onto, to lighten the weight on our shoulders. To create things that embody our struggles and pain.

This isn’t just a way to express yourself–it’s also a declaration of independence from all those who would try to hold us back, who would have us conform for the sake of conformity itself. We are here because we want to be here and no amount of outside pressure or judgement should change that fact —although I know that can be a whole lot easier said than done.
What we create can also be about celebrating our feelings and the things we love. Embracing our individuality, using our passion and taking the things that make us different or unusual and making them into something beautiful.
You can use your creativity to show —or find out— who you are, and everything that makes you unique — even if that means being different from everyone else. So go ahead: show the world how beautiful your art can be!
No one thinks exactly the way you do. The way your thoughts appear in your head or the way you view life and the world around you. No one can see or feel exactly what and how you see and feel.

My Advice
Try to take the things that make you insecure, unsure, strange or different and make them into something you can view positively. Give yourself the power to accept and be who you are, regardless of how others may see you or judge your choices.
I am proud of my own, and everyone else’s individuality and passion. I wish everyone could be proud of themselves, inside and out.
Everyone deserves to have the freedom to unashamedly be themselves and show it off with style.
